Jos Buttler remained unbeaten on 100 against RCB in the match 19 of IPL 2024.

Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) star opener Jos Buttler returned to form in style as he smashed his sixth IPL century to help RR hammer Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by six wickets at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, in match No. 19 of the IPL 2024 on April 6.

Earlier in the ongoing IPL 2024, Buttler had scores of 11, 11, and 13 in the first three games. However, he chose the perfect time to spoil the party of Bengaluru’s veteran opener Virat Kohli, who also smashed an unbeaten century, which guided visitors to reach the over 180-run mark after being asked to bat first.

The right-handed batter Buttler also became just the second batter after Lucknow Super Giants skipper KL Rahul to smash a century in career’s 100th IPL match. It was also Buttler’s sixth IPL ton as he levelled with legendary batter Chris Gayle in the list of players with the most centuries in the history of the tournament, being only next to Virat Kohli, who has eight to his name.

In the final over of the second innings, with the hosts requiring one run to win, Buttler cleared his front leg and hammered Cameron Green’s short delivery for a six to complete his century and win the game for his side. Soon after hitting the winning runs, Buttler took a leap and celebrated along with non-striker Shimron Hetmyer.

However long you’ve played the game, you still have those anxieties and stresses: Jos Buttler

After smashing an unbeaten century against RCB in the match No. 19 of IPL 2024, Buttler opened up that he is delighted with the win but admitted that a player will have anxiety and stress even after playing for long.

“Had a little bit of luck, did not time it well, just got over the rope, delighted with the win. However long you’ve played the game, you still have those anxieties and stresses. The mind is a powerful thing, just keep digging in, keep working hard and you need a little bit of luck along the way,” Player of the Match Jos Buttler said during the post-match presentation.

Buttler further added that, even though he made 13 runs in the Royals’ last fixture, he felt really good. Buttler also expressed that he had a really good tournament in South Africa (SA20) and that he just needed one innings to get into form.

At some point it will be okay and sometimes you have to tell yourself it will be okay. I did feel really good in the last game, even though I got 13. I had a really good tournament in South Africa, I just felt like I needed one innings to put that to bed. We started the season really well, we have been together now for three seasons, we have got a good thing going, but we need to keep working hard and keep the momentum going.” Buttler added.

Jos Buttler’s century helped RR to move top of the IPL 2024 standings

With their fourth win in as many matches, Sanju Samason-led RR jumped to the No. 1 spot in the IPL 2024 standings with eight points to their name. Meanwhile, two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders slipped to second in the IPL 2024 points table after the end of match No. 19 between RR and RCB. Meanwhile, Faf du Plessis-led Bengaluru remained at the seventh spot with just two points to their name.
