Kane Williamson suffered an ACL injury during the opening game of IPL 2023 between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings.

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson is one of the best all-format batters in the modern era. He is among the top batters in world cricket right now, and his team relies a lot on his batting performance. But the Kiwi skipper suffered a horrible injury during the opening game of the 2023 Indian Premier League. He was playing for the Gujarat Titans, and in an attempt to stop a ball going over the boundary line, he jumped and landed awkwardly.

It was the first game of the season, and after that injury, he was ruled out of the entire season. The 32-year-old returned home on crutches and suffered an ACL injury to his right knee. Some reports confirmed that the Kiwi skipper would not make it to the team for the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup in India. But for all his fans, there is some good news.

Kane Williamson came back home in April from the IPL and underwent surgery. But some media reports claimed that Williamson would not be fit enough to play in the World Cup but would travel with the team as a mentor. But last month, the 32-year-old opened up about his injury and said that he hadn’t given up on a place in the World Cup.

Though it looks pretty difficult for him to recover in the given time, Williamson has started batting practice. In a video posted on social media platforms, the Kiwi skipper was seen doing batting practice and taking throwdowns at the nets. He shared the video with the caption, “Nice to be back in the nets with the bat in hand for a few throws.”

It will be a big boost for the last two editions’ finalists, as he is the backbone of New Zealand’s batting. Williamson is also quite aware of the Indian conditions, having played here in the IPL. His numbers in India are also pretty good. Notably, New Zealand will be part of the World Cup 2023’s opener against defending champions England on October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. There is still time for the World Cup squad to be announced, and fans will hope Williamson can make good progress to feature in the mega event.
