Kane Williamson is racing against time to get fit for ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson shared a video on social media where he was spotted playing cricket with his daughter inside his house. This is the first time, the New Zealand ace has been seen without a knee brace and a crutch in some time.

Notably, Kane Williamson had hurt his knee badly, tearing his ACL and MCL when he jumped to take a catch in the opening match of the IPL 2023 where he played for Gujarat Titans. Upon landing on the ground, he immediately clutched his right knee and was then helped off the ground.

Later scans revealed the serious damage and after treatment, he flew back to New Zealand for further diagnosis and underwent surgery on the knee.

However, the recovery time of this serious injury has meant that he most likely be ruled out of the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023 to be played in India in October- November later this year.

Earlier, the Kiwi captain emphasized his priority of fully regaining his fitness rather than rushing to participate in the mega event.

“I haven’t thought too much about that. I don’t know what the rulings are around that from a squad perspective. But the focus for me is getting it right regardless of the tournaments that are ahead. It’s within any athlete’s want to return as quickly as possible but not compromise the effort that goes in to make sure it’s strong and ready,” Williamson said.

It is expected that Tom Latham or Tim Southee will captain the side in his stead.
