IPL 2023: Setback for Gujarat Titans as Kane Williamson Suffers knee injury
Fans' wait has ended and Cricket’s biggest carnival Indian Premier League is back. In the opening game, Defending champions Gujarat titans are taking on four time champions Chennai Super Kings. In the toss at Narendra Modi stadium Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and invited visiting Chennai to bat. Gujarat included former SRH captain Kane Williamson in their eleven. Williamson suffered a blow to his knee while fielding and had to rush out to dug out in the 13th over of Chennai Super Kings inning.
Kane Williamson's lion effort proved costly for GT
Kane Williamson in 13th over tried to stop a powerful shot of Ruturaj Gaikwad on the boundary line with a full stretch dive. While diving, Williamson looked to have injured his right knee. New entrant in Titans setup Williamson landed awkwardly on his right knee on the boundary line saving a four. Even after a superb effort he failed to stop it, but in return he injured himself. After the injury he had to go out of the field. Williamson in recent times has often struggled with injuries.
Kane Williamson important factor in Titans' top 3
For Gujarat Titans' top order, Williamson is a key player. Williamson had a forgetful season in 2022. SRH after a poor show from Williamson, asked him to step aside and released him from the squad. Gujarat Titans in IPL Auction 2022 bought him at a low price. GT management is looking at Williamson to provide stability in its top-order. Williamson’s injury will definitely prove a crucial moment for Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023.
Defending Champions Gujarat Titans are eagerly waiting for the update on injured Williamson. GT bowlers started nicely but so far they have failed to curtail young Ruturaj Gaikwad. Shami and Rasheed both have started nicely, while another new entry in the squad Joshua Little has also picked up his maiden IPL wicket, as he cleaned up Ambati Rayudu.
