CSK were asked to bat first by GT and posted 206/6 in 20 overs.

The Gujarat Titans (GT) won the toss and elected to bowl first at Chennai’s M.A. Chidambaram Stadium against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2024. Rachin Ravindra, the Kiwi youngster, started his innings well, hitting boundaries regularly in the powerplay.

Ravindra reached 46 and looked to maintain his aggressive approach. However, he was dismissed as a result of a brilliant stumping by GT keeper Wriddhiman Saha, giving the visitors their first breakthrough.

Ajinkya Rahane struggled for most of his time in the middle, but captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (46) was able to speed up the tempo and keep the scoreboard ticking for the hosts. Rahane was removed by R. Sai Kishore, a Tamil Nadu-based spinner after Saha stumped him again.

However, Shivam Dube’s 23-ball 51 with five sixes and two fours and Daryl Mitchell’s 24*, along with Sameer Rizvi’s cameo of 14, took CSK to 206/6.

Deepak Chahar gave CSK the best start by removing Shubman Gill for eight runs and then catching Wriddhiman Saha for 21. CSK’s greatest wicket, however, was that of Vijay Shankar. MS Dhoni didn’t get a chance to bat today, but that didn’t stop him from having an impact on the game.

Shankar attempted to drive a full-length ball from Mitchell on the third ball of the eighth over, but was only able to edge it to the right of MS Dhoni. Dhoni, 42, demonstrated incredible agility and mental focus by diving full length to his right and catching the ball.
