MS Dhoni smashed an unbeaten 37 runs off 16 balls against DC in the IPL 2024 match in Vizag.

The Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Vizag witnessed a huge roar when Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter MS Dhoni walked out to bat against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. This was Dhoni’s first appearance in the ongoing 2024 season with the bat and crowd went bonkers as soon as he stepped onto the field on March 31.

CSK fans had been eagerly waiting to see their beloved “Thala” in action. However, in Super Kings’ past two league games in IPL 2024 edition, Dhoni didn’t came out to bat.

In CSK’s third match against DC, Thala finally went out to bat and the energy in the Vizag stadium suddenly changed. It was electric, with chants of “Dhoni! Dhoni!” echoing throughout the stands.

During the 17th over of the match, when Capitals pacer Mukesh Kumar dismissed Shivam Dube, who scored 18 runs, the legendary batter Dhoni walked out to bat with a massive reception from crowd.

The great finisher Dhoni showed his vintage mode as he smashed an unbeaten 37 runs off 16 balls with 4 boundaries and three huge sixes with a explosive strike rate of 231.25.

Why Vizag stadium holds a special place in MS Dhoni’s heart

Vizag holds a heartfelt place in Dhoni’s cricketing journey. Back in 2005, at the very stadium, a young Dhoni with long hairs was promoted up the batting order (No. 3), and the former Indian captain smashed his maiden international cricket hundred against arch-rivals Pakistan.

During the second ODI of Pakistan’s tour of India in 2005, Dhoni scored a sensational 148 off 123 balls which included 15 fours and 4 sixes. After almost two decades, the crowd once again saw the legendary cricketer smashing DC bowlers all over the ground.
