The dangerous Shivam Dube managed to score only 1 run in this crunch match against GT.

Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) clashed in the IPL 2023 Qualifier 1 at the M Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on May 23, 2023. It is the battle between the teams ranked no.1 and no.2 in the points table after the league stage ended.

GT had finished on the top spot in IPL 2023 points table with 10 wins and 20 points in 14 matches, while CSK had 17 points from 8 wins and one no result in 14 matches.

Hardik Pandya landed the first blow as the GT captain won the toss and chose to bowl first.

“We will bowl first. We heard dew will come, so we want to know what exactly to chase down. We were told to relax after getting into the top-2, but we didn't want, want to stay focussed and play good cricket. We are a smart team, we don't play only one way, we make sure to get the best out of the wicket and have adapted. Darshan Nalkande comes in place of Yash Dayal,” Hardik Pandya said at the toss.

While MS Dhoni said: “We wanted to bowl first, reason being they're an excellent chasing side. We've exploited the conditions slightly better, in a tournament like this, the boys have adapted really well. It's important to back your strengths, the confidence level should be high. They've been able to do that and that's why we have done well. There was a lot of dew in the last game, but with breeze around, we can't say about it tonight, but it does look dry. We're playing the same team.”

There was one change made by GT, as Darshan Nalkande replaced Yash Dayal in XI. CSK on the other hand, were unchanged.

Noor Ahmad castles dangerous in-form Shivam Dube for 1 run

CSK openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway started cautiously. But they gathered pace as Ruturaj looked in fine touch, while Conway was struggling to find the rhythm. At the score of 87, Gaikwad had made 60 in 44 balls with 1 six and 7 fours, before he top-edged a short ball off Mohit Sharma to be caught at long off by David Miller.

In came CSK’s most in-form and dangerous batter Shivam Dube and much was expected from the left-hander who has been smacking sixes right-left and center.

However, GT’s left-arm wrist spinner Noor Ahmad got the better of him in the 12th over, when the southpaw had made 1 run. Noor bowled a googly at the middle stump and in an effort to send the ball over mid-wicket, Shivam Dube hoicked the ball. But the ball missed everything to clatter into the leg stump.
