Ravi Ashwin scored 12 off 6 deliveries against RCB at M Chinnaswamy stadium.

The 32nd match of the IPL 2023 saw Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeating table toppers Rajasthan Royals (RR) in a closely fought encounter on April 23, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Trent Boult's dismissal of RCB captain Virat Kohli for a duck on the first ball, followed by the dismissal of Shahbaz Ahmed within the powerplay overs, proved that RR skipper Sanju Samson's decision to bowl first was the right one.

RCB eventually reached a respectable total of 189/9 in 20 overs thanks to a 127-run third-wicket stand between Faf du Plessis (62) and Glenn Maxwell (77). Sandeep Sharma and Trent Boult both took two wickets for Rajasthan.

In response, Jos Buttler was clean-bowled by Mohammed Siraj for a duck on the second ball of RR's opening over, giving RCB the advantage.

Devdutt Padikkal (52) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (47), however, contributed 98 runs for the second wicket.

With Virat Kohli taking the catches of both hitters, RCB did well to end the partnership quickly. Sanju Samson scored 22 runs quickly, but as the chase began to sputter, Dhruv Jurel displayed his talent by scoring 34 runs in 16 balls.

However, RR needed 20 runs in the last 6 balls and Ravi Ashwin was on the strike. He did hit two fours and took a double in the first three balls, but was dismissed on the 4th ball of the over, as his attempt to hit a six only resulted in him being caught by Suyash Prabhudessai off Harshal Patel.

This dismissal proved to be too hard for Ravi Ashwin’s daughter to watch as she began crying after seeing her father getting out.

Coming to the match, RR finished on 182/6, with Jurel getting the strike on the final ball of the innings with 9 runs needed off it. RR lost by 7 runs but remain at the top of the points table, while RCB also now have 8 points and moved to 5th place.
