Steve Smith added 285 runs with Travis Head for the fourth wicket in the ICC WTC final.

Shardul Thakur has become a crucial partnership breaker for Team India in the World Test championship final against Australia. First, Thakur picked up David Warner right before lunch on day one, now on day 2 he got the big fish Steve Smith castled to put Australia a little on the back foot. Everyone was surprised with the way Smith lost his wicket against Shardul Thakur. It was unlike Steve Smith's manner of dismissal. Steve Smith completed his 31st test ton in his career by smashing two consecutive boundaries to Mohammed Siraj in the first over of the day. Smith was going nicely along with Travis Head on the other end, but India made a quick recovery after dismissing both of them and Cameron Green early in the first hour.

Unlike Smith dismissal

Second over after the drinks break, Shardul Thakur delivered one outside off stump which went moving away from Smith. Confident Steve Smith tried to poke at that one but unfortunately the ball took the inside edge and went crashing onto the Smith’s off and middle stump. After the dismissal, Smith was in despair and regretted his mistake by throwing his head back. Smith in a likely manner would have left that one to go to the keeper comfortably, but after his century he tried to do a little misadventure against Shardul Thakur and his pace. He smashed 129 fours in his 268-ball long inning to score 121 runs.

Steve Smith along with left-hander Travis Head added 285 runs for the fourth wicket to put Australia in a comfortable position in the first innings. They both utilised the loose bowling from India and also the sunny weather at The Oval to fetch a few runs. In the first session after Head’s dismissal, India bounced back a little and picked up 4 wickets in the first 90 minutes of the game. Umesh Yadav is still wicket-less but Shami, Siraj, and Shardul have picked up 2 wickets each in the inning. India are looking to restrict Australia under the 500 runs mark.
