Jofra Archer castled Travis Head with a terrific slower ball during the AUS vs ENG match in Barbados.

England fast bowler Jofra Archer picked his first wicket in his T20 World Cup career by castling Australia opener Travis Head with a clever slower ball. He did it in the place of his birth, Barbados.

Archer had missed the last two editions of the T20 World Cup due to injuries. In England’s first match in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Archer had gone wicketless in his two-over spell against Scotland.

His maiden wicket in the competition was the big scalp of Head, who had blasted 34 runs in 18 balls in the AUS vs ENG encounter on Saturday at the Kensington Oval. Even as England eventually lost the match by 36 runs, Archer will remember this wicket for a while. Head has been an in-form batter.

Head and Warner formed a quickfire opening stand of 70 runs in five overs. After Moeen Ali dismissed Warner, Archer struck with Head’s wicket.

From his favoured around-the-wicket angle to left-handers, Archer bowled a slower ball on a good length. Head had made some room to hit it on the off-side and went through with his shot. However, the left-hander was completely deceived by the lack of pace on the ball.

The ball also stuck a bit into the pitch and remained low, making matters worse for Head who had already left his stumps. As the ball hit the timber, Archer let out a huge roar.

Talking about the match, Australia posted 201 on the board, the first 200+ plus total of this tournament. Warner, Head, Stoinis and Marsh scored between 30 and 40 at healthy strike rates. In their defence, Adam Zampa and Pat Cummins returned with impressive figures of 2/28 and 2/23, respectively, as Australia won by 36 runs.
