"We are hopeful that MS Dhoni will be available in IPL 2025": CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed that MS Dhoni has not made a decision yet on his future in the IPL.

MS Dhoni has not made a decision yet on his future as a player in the Indian Premier League (IPL), according to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan.

In a video posted by the franchise, Viswanathan was asked whether Dhoni will play one more season. The CSK CEO said that Dhoni, as he’s always done, is keeping his cards close to his chest right now and has not made a call on his future yet. Viswanathan and the franchise are “very, very hopeful” that the Ranchi-born player will feature in next’s year tournament.

Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2020, having played his last game in 2019, but continues to ply his trade in the IPL. He has won all three ICC white-ball trophies – T20 World Cup in 2007, ODI World Cup in 2011 and Champions Trophy in 2013. He has also won the IPL five times for the Chennai Super Kings.

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan opens up on MS Dhoni’s future

There were reports that IPL 2024 could be the final season for “Captain Cool” who had handed over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad.

CSK could not make it to the playoffs this time around and were knocked out in their last league game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). There was a general perception that this was the final game for Dhoni in the yellow jersey.

However, CEO Kasi Viswanathan has said that they are waiting for Dhoni’s decision. He added that they have never interfered in Dhoni’s decisions and hence, they will wait to hear from the man himself on his future plans.

“(What is his future). I do not know. It’s a question which only MS can answer. See, the question for us is, we’ve always respected the decisions taken by MS. We have left it to him. As all of you know, he has always taken his decisions and announced them at the appropriate time,” Viswanathan told CSK in an interview.

“We do expect that we will get a decision as and when he decides. But, we are very, very hopeful that he will be available for CSK next year. That is the view and the expectations of fans and me. That’s the case,” he added.

After being knocked out of the IPL 2024, Dhoni has returned to his home in Ranchi for rest.
