A current member of the West Indies Cricket Team has been accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women, according to reports. The accused West Indies cricketer hails from Guyana, and the investigations into the matter are underway.
According to a report by SportsMax TV, at least 11 women, including a teenager, have lodged complaints with the law authorities in Guyana against the accused. The charges include rape, sexual assault, and unwanted sexual advances by the cricketer.
Moreover, there have been attempts to suppress the matter to protect the identities of the victims involved. However, the matter has gained momentum after a recent report by Guyanese publication Kaieteur News, which revealed disturbing accusations from at least eleven women against the accused cricketer.
Cricket West Indies is unaware of the circumstances
When Sportsmax TV reached out to Cricket West Indies (CWI) for a response over the matter, they informed that they were unaware of the incident.
“Cricket West Indies is unaware of the circumstances and, therefore, is not in a position to comment at this time,” CWI President Kishore Shallow was quoted as saying by SportsMax TV.
Nigel Hughes, a lawyer who is representing the family of one of the victims, revealed that the allegations were made by her victim two years ago. During an interview with Sportsmax TV, Hughes revealed that an investigation was also conducted two years ago.
“I think you have highlighted that it is a matter of some significant sensitivity. The allegations that were leveled by the victim were leveled two years ago, and an investigation was conducted, and we understand that they were recommendations from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to institute charges,” Hughes said.
“My firm was initially contacted about two years ago and then of course, with the more recent allegations, inquiries were made literally yesterday and the day before about what the status of my client’s complaint was and we have not been able to obtain any significant information,” she was further quoted as saying by SportsMax TV.
Meanwhile, the West Indies Cricket Team are currently busy with a test series against the Australian Cricket Team, at home. The first test match of the three-match series is underway at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados.
