Ishan Kishan last played for India in November 2023.

Ishan Kishan has been missing in action since the Indian tour of South Africa early this year. Kishan had been part of the Indian team since 2022 and had traveled with the team wherever it went. He also played in the Asia Cup 2023 and in two matches of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as well.

He then played in the five-match T20I series against Australia at home and then flew to South Africa, where he was named in the T20I and test squads. But with Jitesh Sharma being preferred over him, Ishan Kishan warmed the bench in both T20Is and then requested BCCI for a mental health break ahead of the South Africa tests.

This was after it was apparent that Indian team management would opt for KL Rahul as the wicket-keeper and Kishan might not get a chance to play in the test playing XI.

Since then, there has been a wait for the Jharkhand keeper-batter to make himself available for selection. Despite national coach Rahul Dravid’s remarks that he should participate in some games if he aims to be considered for national selection, he has shown no inclination towards playing competitive cricket.

He has missed Jharkhand’s state team matches in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2023-24. And it was confirmed that he will not be part of his home state Jharkhand’s Ranji game against Haryana in Jamshedpur from February 9.

There are questions regarding whether Ishan Kishan’s continuous absence will influence the BCCI’s consideration of core contracts. He is currently in Grade C and receives an annual retainer of Rs 1 crore. With KS Bharat not doing well, Ishan had a strong chance of playing in the upcoming test series against England, but he may have missed out.

As per the Cricbuzz reports, the 25-year-old keeper-batter has been stationed in Baroda for the past couple of weeks, honing his skills at the Reliance Stadium in the city. However, there is no indication of when he intends to return to action.

Kishan has been training at the Kiran More Academy in Baroda in the company of the Pandya brothers – Hardik and Krunal. Incidentally, Hardik Pandya is the captain of the Mumbai Indians, an IPL franchise that Kishan also represents.

Kiran More confirmed to Cricbuzz that Kishan is indeed training at his academy but could not disclose much.
