During the 2026 series against India, the left-handed batter produced a string of significant high-scoring innings that helped Sri Lanka thrive through several massive collapses. 

A rare achievement for Sonal Dinusha 

During India‘s tour of Sri Lanka, the Lankan all-rounder batted mostly in the lower order and followed skipper Dhananjaya de Silva in the Indian batting order.

During the series, the left-handed batter produced a string of high scores. He became only the third player in the history of Test cricket to have scored 80 or more runs in each of his first three Test innings against India, joining West Indies great Everton Weekes and Pakistan legend Zaheer Abbas. 

He subsequently added another major milestone to his list by scoring centuries in both innings of the second Test in Colombo.

Before the India series, Dinusha had just a single half-century in his Test career, but coming out of it, he now has an excellent Test record with 3 centuries and 2 half-centuries. His 133-run innings in the second innings of the 2nd Test helped Sri Lanka stage a comeback after they had been forced to follow on.
