Shreyas Iyer has added a second date of birth in his Instagram bio.

Shreyas Iyer is set to commence his new journey tomorrow with the T20I series between India and Ireland. The right-handed batsman has replaced Suryakumar Yadav as the new T20I captain of India, and will take up his first assignment in the IND vs IRE series.

Interestingly, Iyer was out of the T20I side for almost two years, having played his last game in 2023. However, he impressed many with his performance as a batter and a leader in India Premier League in the last three seasons

In IPL 2024, Shreyas Iyer led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to their third title. In the 2025 edition, he became the new captain of Punjab Kings (PBKS) and propelled them to the playoffs after a gap of 10 seasons. They finished as the runners-up after losing the final to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

Iyer also continued his great leadership in IPL 2026 as Punjab dominated the points table at the start, remaining unbeaten in first six games. However, they endured a losing streak in the second half, which hampered their chances of making it to the playoffs.

However, Iyer gave a fabulous performance, smacking 498 runs in 14 games at an average of 55.33 and 168.81, with five fifties and one century.

Ahead of his comeback to the T20Is, Iyer has changed his Instagram bio. He has added a new date of birth in his profile. His latest bio on Instagram reads, “Second DOB: 25.12.2025.”.

This has made many speculate about his bio. As per the various social media users, the date- “25.12.2025”- holds a deep personal significance for Iyer. On 25 December, 2025, Iyer picked up a bat again after recovering from a life-threatening injury, symbolising a fresh start in both his career and life.

By calling it his “second date of birth,” Iyer seems to be expressing gratitude for getting another chance to play the sport he loves. Last year, he had to pull out of the red ball format due to a back issue and later sustained a deadly injury in the Australia tour.

The right-handed batsman suffered a life-threatening injury in the 3rd ODI against Australia on October 25 while taking a catch. Shreyas sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding.

He was admitted to a hospital in Sydney and underwent surgery. After recovery, he returned to India and was out of the field for two more months due to rehabilitation. His rehabilitation completed in December and he returned to the field in January in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
