Shubman Gill will lead India in the first three ODIs against New Zealand.
India captain Shubman Gill was seen wearing a small device called ‘Temple’ above his eye during the first ODI against New Zealand at Eden Park in Auckland on November 4.
The device has been developed by a team led by Zomato and Eternal founder Deepinder Goyal. Temple is designed to monitor blood flow to the brain and collect data related to an athlete’s physical and neurological responses.
It is worn around the temple region, just above the eyes. Gill had also been spotted wearing the device during India’s training session in Auckland ahead of the five-match ODI series against New Zealand.

Temple is worn near the temple region and stays attached to the skin during physical activities. It is designed to provide information about blood flow to the brain and an athlete’s cognitive load.
The collected data can help understand the mental effort involved during training and competition. This gives athletes another way to monitor their workload alongside regular fitness measurements.
Gill was first spotted wearing the device during India‘s training session in Auckland on October 29. He was seen using it while preparing for the ODI series, suggesting that he had been testing the wearable before the opening match.
The device was also part of the technology being explored by athletes outside cricket. However, neither Gill nor the BCCI has publicly explained the specific purpose behind using it during India’s training sessions and matches.
Gill is not the first Indian sportsperson to use the device. Badminton star PV Sindhu has also been spotted wearing Temple in recent months.
Its use by athletes has brought attention to Deepinder Goyal’s wearable technology, which focuses on monitoring brain-related responses during physical activity.
