India are scheduled to start their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign against Bangladesh on Feb 20.

The ICC Champions Trophy is set to return after an eight-year gap. The last edition was held in 2017 in England, where Pakistan claimed their first title with a commanding 180-run win over India in the final.

India will enter the tournament as one of the strong favorites, thanks to their impressive form in limited-overs cricket in recent years. They ended their 11-year ICC title drought by winning the ICC Men’s T20I World Cup 2024. India were also runners-up in the previous ICC Champions Trophy and ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

India’s batting in limited-overs cricket has been in great form, with players like Shreyas Iyer, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul all performing well. However, the team has faced a setback in the bowling department due to star pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s back injury.

Bumrah picked up the injury during the final test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 and is doubtful to participate in the league stages of the competition.

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 features eight teams divided into two groups – Group A and Group B. The ninth edition of the competition will be held across venues in Pakistan and Dubai, featuring a total of 15 matches.

Group A features hosts Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and New Zealand, while Group B includes England, Australia, South Africa, and Afghanistan.

When will BCCI announce India’s squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025?

Speaking to the media after BCCI’s meeting on Sunday, January 12, Vice President Rajeev Shukla confirmed that the squad will be announced on January 18 or 19.

The ICC had requested the boards to submit their provisional squads five weeks before the start of the tournament, which is January 12. But the BCCI reportedly sought an extension from the ICC to delay their squad announcement, citing the recent test series in Australia.
