A target of more than 300 has been chased only once at Lord’s in ODI history. It was 24 years ago when India chased down the target of 326 against England to win the NatWest Series final. The match is remembered as one of the most iconic games in Indian cricket history, and every fan remembers the iconic shirt-off celebration by Sourav Ganguly on the balcony of Lord’s after winning the final.
Batting first, England scored a big total of 325 runs, with Marcus Trescothick and captain Nasser Hussain scoring centuries. A target that big had never been chased at Lord’s in ODI cricket before.
However, when the Indian batters stepped onto the field, they were determined to get the job done. Virender Sehwag and Sourav Ganguly, opening the batting, put together a brilliant partnership of 106 runs. After that, a few wickets fell quickly, and suddenly India were 146 for 5.
Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif then stitched together a crucial partnership, with Kaif remaining unbeaten to guide India to victory. It was an iconic win for the team and is still remembered for what followed after the match, when captain Sourav Ganguly celebrated by taking off his shirt on the Lord’s balcony.
