Virat Kohli is set to make his return to Ranji Trophy and play for Delhi against Railways.
In what is a massive news for the Delhi team ahead of a crucial match against Railways, superstar Indian cricketer Virat Kohli is set to feature in their upcoming encounter.
Last week, Kohli confirmed his availability for Delhi’s final group fixture of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 against Railways, which will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium from January 30.
Several Indian cricket stars, including captain Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, featured in the previous round of matches in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25 following the mandate from the BCCI. Following India’s 1-3 loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024/25, the BCCI issued guidelines for centrally contracted players to play domestic cricket when they are available.
Kohli missed Delhi’s last game due to neck pain but is now set to play in Ranji Trophy after a long time.
When was the last time Virat Kohli played a Ranji Trophy match?
Virat Kohli’s last appearance in Ranji Trophy was in 2012. A youngster then, Kohli played under Virender Sehwag against Uttar Pradesh in November 2012. He managed scores of 14 and 43 in a game that Delhi lost by six wickets.
Over the last week, Kohli worked with former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar at a Reliance cricket facility in Alibaug before departing for Delhi. Videos and photos of Kohli’s net sessions with Bangar have been viral on social media.
Bangar was the India batting coach during Kohli’s peak years from 2014 to 2019. Kohli has turned towards Bangar once again following his struggles outside the off-stump in Australia.
The last round of Ranji matches are slated to conclude on February 2nd, just four days before the start of the ODI series between India and England. Kohli is part of the ODI squad for the England series and the following ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
