"Selectors are not looking at you," When MS Dhoni gave Yuvraj Singh a reality check

Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni played cricket for India together from 2004 to 2017.
Yuvraj Singh, on a podcast, revealed some interesting details about his relationship with ex-India captain MS Dhoni. The two had a solid career individually and combined to give India some memorable wins in multiple events.
During the conversation, Yuvraj Singh made one thing clear, he and MS Dhoni were not close friends. He gave the reason that their lifestyles are completely opposite to one another, and that they didn’t gel well.
He further opened up on his complicated relationship with former India skipper and legend MS Dhoni by stating they are “not close friends” in real life but happened to develop a strong bond when they played with each other for the country.
“Me and Mahi are not close friends. We were friends because of cricket; we played together. Mahi’s lifestyle was very different from mine, so we were never close friends; we were only friends because of cricket. When me and Mahi went on the ground, we gave more than 100% to our country. In that, he was captain, and I was vice captain. When I came onto the team, I was 4 years old. When you are captain and vice captain, there will be decision differences,” Yuvraj Singh said on the TRS clips podcast.
Yuvraj stated that Dhoni and he met and became friends through cricket, but they were never close friends due to their differing personalities and cultures. Yuvraj Singh played 40 tests, 304 ODIs, and 58 T20Is for India from 2000–2017.
“When I was at the end of my career, he told me selection committee is not looking at me right now,” says Yuvraj Singh on MS Dhoni
Yuvraj claimed that it was Dhoni, not then-captain Virat Kohli, head coach Ravi Shastri, or chief selector MSK Prasad, who gave him a clear answer as to why he was dropped from the team following the 2017 Champions Trophy, which proved to be the final nail in the coffin of the cricketer’s spectacular career. Yuvraj called time on his international cricket career a few years later.
“Sometimes he made decisions I didn’t like; sometimes I made decisions he didn’t like. That happens on every team. When I was at the end of my career, when I wasn’t getting the right picture about my career, I asked him for advice. He was the guy who told me that the selection committee is not looking at you right now. I was like, at least I got to know the real picture. This is just before the 2019 World Cup. That is the reality,” he said.
