Indian Cricket Team batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma commenced their international stint in 2026 with the ODI series against New Zealand. Both of them concluded the previous year on a fabulous note. While Rohit won Player of the Series in the ODI campaign against Australia, Kohli won the same award in the three-match series against South Africa.
Both the Indian batting legends played for India in the recently-concluded ODI series against New Zealand. The Shubman Gill & Co. suffered a humiliating 2-1 defeat in the campaign as New Zealand made a stunning comeback after losing the opening game. The Black Caps won the second and third games to register their first-ever ODI series victory in India.
Kohli rocked with his performances in the three-match series, smacking a half-century (93) in the opening game in Vadodara and a century (124) in the last game in Indore. He also ended as the leading run-getter for the Men in Blue. However, Rohit struggled to make a mark, failing to even score a half-century across three games.
When will Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli return to play for Indian Cricket Team?
Fans will not be able to watch Rohit and Kohli playing for the Indian Cricket Team for the next few months. After the five-match T20I series between India and New Zealand in the last two weeks of January, the focus will shift to the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The IND vs NZ T20I series, which will be the platform to prepare for T20 World Cup, will conclude on January 31.
From February 7 to March 8, the Men in Blue will be busy with T20 World Cup. Under Suryakumar Yadav’s leadership, they will look forward to defend their title.
From March to May, Indian players will be busy with their commitments in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The tournament will start in the last week of March and conclude in the final week of May. However, the exact dates for the league are yet to be revealed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
India do not have any international assignments in the month of June. In July, they will travel to England for a white-ball series. The T20I series will be played first; with the opening game scheduled to take place on July 1. England and India will clash in five T20I games.
It will be followed by a three-match ODI series, set to take place from July 14 to 19. Rohit and Virat are expected to return in this campaign if they are not ruled out due to any reasons. As a result, both the batting legends will miss more than five months of international cricket.
