The T20 World Cup 2026 came to an end as New Zealand finished as runners-up for the second time and India lifted the trophy for a historic third time.
India defeated New Zealand by a massive margin of 96 runs to lift T20 World Cup 2026 title. They became the first team in the history of the tournament to defend the title and win it at the home turf.
While the Men in Blue have solidified their place as the world champions in the limited-overs circuit, fans have already started waiting for the next edition of the tournament.
When and where will the next edition of the T20 World Cup take place?

The next edition of the T20 World Cup will take place from October 21 to November 19, 2028. It will be the 11th edition of the limited-overs competition.
The tournament will follow the same format as that was in the last two editions. It will feature 20 nations divided into four groups, which will be followed by the Super 8 stage and knockout games, respectively.
After the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which was held in India and Sri Lanka, the next edition will be held in the Oceania region. The 2028 edition will be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
The hosts were decided in November 2021 as a part of the 2024-2031 ICC men’s host cycle. Australia previously hosted the tournament in 2022, while New Zealand has never had the opportunity to do so.
The tournament’s venues are yet to be decided. However, the likes of the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the Sydney Cricket Ground, Adelaide Oval, and the Optus Stadium in Australia, and Eden Park, Sky Stadium and Hagley Oval in New Zealand are expected to host games in the 2028 edition.
How many teams have already qualified for the 2028 ICC World Cup?
Australia and New Zealand have already secured a place in the tournament as the host nations. Meanwhile, the likes of India, England, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, the West Indies and Zimbabwe have already qualified as the top teams in the 2026 World Cup.
In addition to the nine nations, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Ireland will also be part of the tournament, as per the T20I team rankings. Eight spots are still empty, and they will be filled by region-based qualifiers.
