Vaibhav Sooryavanshi earned his maiden India call-up for Ireland T20I series.
The Indian Cricket Team is set to clash with Ireland in a two-match T20I series in Stormont, Belfast. The two matches will be played on June 26 and 28, respectively at the same venue. The games are scheduled for 6 PM IST.
The Men in Blue are playing a T20 series after a long Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. They will start their preparations for the new core ahead of the T20 World Cup and the LA Olympics 2028.
For the experimentation in this span of two years, three players earned their maiden T20 call-ups namely, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Prince Yadav and Suryansh Shedge. India also rewarded Ravi Bishnoi and Prasidh Krishna for their recent IPL and domestic performances.
India will take field not just with some debutants, but also a new skipper. Shreyas Iyer has been given the reigns of the team ahead of this series, replacing Suryakumar Yadav. The young cricketing phenomenon Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is highly likely to make his international debut against Ireland tonight.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to don jersey number 03 for India
The 15-year-old is poised to embark upon his international journey for India in the T20 internationals from June 26 against Ireland for the 1st T20I. He was named in the 15-member squad for the UK tour shortly after the IPL 2026.
Sooryavanshi will don the jersey number 03 for the T20Is playing in the blue. He had the same jersey number in the IPL 2026 as well, while representing Rajasthan Royals (RR).
Prior to him, India’s cricketing greats Harbhajan Singh, Suresh Raina, Yuzvendra Chahal and Stuart Binny have sported this jersey number in their careers.
The prodigy has had phenomenal success this year, with being part of ICC U19 Cricket World Cup winning team along with him being the Player of the Tournament. In the IPL too, he won the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament and the Orange Cap winner for his 776 runs in a single edition. Most recently, he was a part of the India A squad, where he played a key role in India winning the series, with his 94 (29) in the Final.
