Tim Seifert scored a half-century against India in T20 World Cup 2026 final.
The T20 World Cup 2026 final between India and New Zealand got underway on Sunday, March 8, at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After India were asked to bat first by New Zealand, they posted a gigantic total of 255/5 in the first innings.
Indian openers Sanju Samson (89) and Abhishek Sharma (52) scored half-centuries to give a blistering start to the batting. Batting at one down, Ishan Kishan (54) hammered another fifty to score crucial runs in the middle-overs. Towards the end, Shivam Dube added quick-fire 26 off eight balls to take the scoreboard to a mammoth total.
In the chase, New Zealand lost many key batters for single digits. Opener Finn Allen, who scored a century in the semi-final, could only score nine runs. Rachin Ravindra, Glenn Phillips, and Mark Chapman also got out for single digits.
Opener Tim Seifert kept his patience at one end and scored a half-century. Before losing his wicket, he scored 52 runs off 26 balls with two fours and five sixes.
Tim Seifert to play for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2026
Notably, Seifert will soon return to India to play for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The right-handed batsman was bought by the franchise for INR 1.50 crore during the IPL 2026 auction in December 2025. The IPL 2026 will start on March 28.
Notably, Seifert has only played three games in IPL across the 2021 to 2022 seasons. He went unsold in the 2023 and 2024 auctions. In the last season, he was signed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) midway as a replacement for Jocab Bethell, who left the tournament for England duties.
Seifert was signed for INR 2 crore but did not play any matches in the tournament. Later, he was picked by KKR in the auction at his base price.
Meanwhile, Siefert ended as the leading run-scorer for New Zealand in T20 World Cup 2026. Across nine innings, he scored 326 runs at an average of 46.57 and a strike rate of 166.33. He scored four half-centuries in the tournament, including a highest score of an unbeaten 89 against UAE in the league stage.
