Who is Aaryavir Sehwag? All you need to know about Indian batter picked in U19 squad

Aaryavir Sehwag has been drafted into the Indian U19 team for the upcoming series against Australia U19.

A new generation of Indian stars is stepping into the limelight, and a familiar name that has recently emerged is Aaryavir Sehwag.

Though the cricketer is not widely renowned, his surname has once again appeared on the national pathway. He has now been selected to represent India in the U19 series against Australia. 

The selection is significant because it marks Aaryavir’s first India U19 call-up. The 18-year-old right-handed batter plays for Delhi and has built quite a reputation for himself in the Indian domestic circuit. This is his first opportunity to represent India at the international youth level. 

Aaryavir Sehwag: A right-handed batter with an impressive domestic record

Born on October 19, 2007, Aaryavir is primarily a right-handed batter and is also listed as a right-arm leg-break bowler. Aaryavir is the son of former Indian opener Virender Sehwag. Before securing a spot in the Indian U19 team, he represented the Delhi U19 team at the domestic level.

One of the biggest achievements in his young career came during the 2024 Cooch Behar Trophy, when he produced an extraordinary 297-run innings against Meghalaya. He struck 51 fours during that marathon knock before missing out on a triple century. 

That performance helped establish him as one of the promising young batters in Delhi cricket. After being selected for the India U19 team, he will get the opportunity to establish his international identity.

Aaryavir’s DPL Experience

Aaryavir has gained some experience in senior-level T20 cricket by playing in the Delhi Premier League. He made his DPL debut for Central Delhi Kings and then also went on to feature for another side in the DPL.

In the ongoing DPL 2026, playing for West Delhi Lions, he scored 22 runs off 14 balls against New Delhi Tigers. Hence, the India U19 selection comes at an important stage in his development.

For a player carrying one of India’s greatest cricketing surnames, the opportunity comes with inevitable attention. His domestic performances, particularly in the longest format of the game, have made him a significant part of India’s junior cricket setup.
