Akash Deep has been named in India’s 17-member squad for last three tests against England.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced 17-member squad for the final three test matches against England. India have made a few changes from their squad for the first two tests and dropped young pacer Avesh Khan from the remaining matches. The 27-year-old pacer from Bengal Akash Deep has earned his maiden test call-up replacing Avesh Khan.
Akash Deep was part of the India A side taking on the England Lions in the unofficial test series. Akash picked up two four-wicket hauls against England Lions in three unofficial test matches he played. Right-arm medium pacer Akash has been rewarded for his magnificent performance in First Class cricket and found his place in the Indian test squad.
Who is Akash Deep?
Akash Deep belongs to Bihar, he was born and brought up in Rohtas District. Akash comes from a very humble background. He had to go through a long hard fight to earn his maiden test call-up for India. Akash left his hometown in Rohtas at the age of 13 and moved to Bengal where he got the opportunity to shape his cricketing career.
Akash Deep was once completely shattered when he lost his father and elder brother in just two months. Akash had to take care of his family after this incident and despite suffering personal loans, Akash Deep managed to come back to Bengal and started focusing on his dream. Akash made his First Class debut in 2019 against Andhra Pradesh in a Ranji Trophy game.
The young Indian pacer has played 29 First Class matches and picked up 103 wickets in his career. Akash Deep’s journey is one of the most inspiring ones in Indian cricket. Akash Deep might get an opportunity against England if Indian team management decides to give rest to Jaspit Bumrah. The third test between India and England will be played at Saurashtra Cricket Stadium in Rajkot from 15 February.
