The Indian Premier League (IPL) is known for providing the best platform for unknown stars to showcase their talent to the world. That is why it is said that the IPL is where talent meets opportunity. Every season, we see some new faces coming up the ranks. Even in IPL 2024, some uncapped players have impressed everyone with their skills.
One of these names is the new sensation of Punjab Kings, Ashutosh Sharma. The 25-year-old, who hails from Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh, is known for his power-hitting. He has established himself as a power-hitting all-rounder on the domestic circuit. Though it is the initial phase of his career, he has certainly forced the cricket world to take notice.
He made his IPL debut recently in IPL 2024 and was bought for just INR 20 lakhs by Punjab Kings at the IPL 2024 auction. Not many would have thought of what he was capable of. But, after just four games, everyone is praising him.
The 25-year-old is the second-highest scorer for his team. He has scored a total of 156 runs in just four innings at an average of 52 and an incredible strike rate of 205.26. He has played 76 balls in total and slammed 13 sixes and nine fours. He almost pulled off an incredible chase on Friday against Mumbai Indians with his 61-run knock. But, despite a loss, he gained praise from everyone.
Here is all you need to know about Ashutosh Sharma
In his debut IPL game, he pulled off a stunning chase along with Shanshank Singh against Gujarat Titans with a brilliant cameo. He is just like this even on the domestic circuit. Not many know that he can also roll his arm over and bowl as well. Ashutosh Sharma was born in Ratlam on September 15, 1998. He moved to Indore to continue his cricket dreams.
He overcame the financial issues he faced at a young age and broke through to get a chance to play at the domestic level for Railways. His first-class debut was against Tripura in December 2023. Notably, he is not a one-day wonder, but has proved himself at the domestic level as well. He made headlines when he hit an 11-ball fifty against Arunachal Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali 2023.
That was one of the reasons why PBKS bought him at the auction. He has played four first-class matches for Railways and has scored 268 runs with one century and a half-century. But, he is a specialist in the shortest format. In 15 T20s before IPL 2024, he has scored 419 runs at an incredible strike rate of 197.64.
