The Indian Premier League (IPL) is known for giving opportunities to some unknown faces to showcase their real talent in front of the world. Over the years, many youngsters have come through the ranks by performing in the IPL. But not just youngsters; this tournament has helped some veterans get another chance.
One such veteran is all set to make his debut in the IPL. It will be the 32-year-old all-rounder from Afghanistan. Delhi Capitals (DC) have signed Gulbadin Naib for the remainder of the IPL 2024. He will join the team soon, as the franchise has named him the replacement for injured Mitchell Marsh.
The Australian all-rounder tore his right hamstring and was ruled out of the competition. As a result, Gulbadin Naib has joined DC at his base price of INR 50 lakhs. He can add his all-round skills to the team.
Here is all you need to know about Gulbadin Naib
Born on June 4, 1991, in Logar, Afghanistan, Gulbadin Naib is a bowling all-rounder. The 32-year-old started his journey in 2008, and after some good domestic seasons, he made his international debut in 2011 against Canada. But he struggled to perform in his early stages and was dropped after a couple of series.
He made his comeback in 2014. In 2015, he registered his maiden T20I fifty against Zimbabwe, which helped Afghanistan register their first T20I series win against a test-playing team. He also helped to win an ODI series against Zimbabwe after a few months, which helped Afghanistan break into the top ten ODI rankings for the first time.
With some consistent performance with the bat in the middle order, he was given the opportunity to lead his country in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. But Afghanistan didn’t win a game in the tournament.
Now, he is a regular face in the white-ball formats for Afghanistan. Naib has played 82 ODIs and 65 T20Is so far. He has scored 2038 runs with 8 half-centuries in total. With the ball, he has taken 73 ODIs and 26 T20I wickets until now.
