Mayank Yadav picked 3/27 on his IPL debut for LSG against PBKS and won Player of the Match award.

Mayank Yadav, the 21-year-old Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacer, rattled the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the ongoing IPL 2024 on Saturday, March 30. The match was played at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.

LSG stand-in captain Nicholas Pooran won the toss and chose to bat first. Thanks to Quinton de Kock (54), Pooran (42), and Krunal Pandya (43* in 22 balls) LSG posted 199/8 after 20 overs. For PBKS, Sam Curran claimed three wickets, while Arshdeep Singh took two.

In response, PBKS openers Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow scored 102 runs for the first wicket in 11.2 overs.

Then Pooran introduced Mayank Yadav in the attack and he impressed with his pace with his first ball which was recorded at 147 kph. He continued to trouble both Dhawan and Bairstow with the pace, eventually dismissing Bairstow for 42 runs. He also took the wickets of Prabhsimran Singh (19) and Jitesh Sharma (6) as well. He finished with 3/27 in his 4 overs on debut.

PBKS only managed 178/5 and lost by 21 runs, recording their second straight loss in the ongoing IPL 2024.

The talk of the town was Mayank Yadav, who left the fans and cricket pundits wide-eyed as he hurled the fastest ball of the IPL 2024 so far. It was bowled to Shikhar Dhawan and clocked at 155.8 Kph on the speed gun. Even in his first over on debut, his speeds read as 147 kmph, 146 kmph, 150 kmph, 141 kmph and 149 kmph.

Born on 17 June 2002, Mayank Yadav plays for Delhi in Indian domestic cricket. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023, Mayank maintained a brilliant economy rate of 6.5 in four matches, picking five wickets. Additionally, he also took six wickets in five Vijay Hazare Trophy matches. He was also clocked bowling at 153 kph in the tournament.

Mayank Yadav was an uncapped player who was picked by the Lucknow franchise in the 2022 mega-auction for a price of just Rs 20 lakh. However, an injury prevented him from playing for LSG in IPL 2023 and he was replaced by Arpit Guleria.

Thus far, Mayank has played 1 FC match, 17 List A games, and 11 T20 matches and has picked a total of 51 wickets across formats.
