Medhavi Bidhuri took two wickets in the DPL 2026 opener

The Women’s Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2026 has got off to an exciting start, with Delhi’s young cricketers getting a chance to showcase their talent on a big stage. The third edition of the tournament began on August 20, with defending champions South Delhi Superstarz facing Central Delhi Queens at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

The defending champions, South Delhi Superstarz, started the new season on a winning note, defeating Central Delhi Queens by 29 runs. Batting first, the defending champions scored 156/5 in 20 overs, with Nishika Singh and Tanisha Singh scoring half-centuries.

Central Delhi Queens tried to chase down the target but were eventually restricted to 127/7. While the result went in favour of South Delhi Superstarz, one Central Delhi Queens player, Medhavi Bidhuri, managed to attract plenty of attention on social media after taking her second wicket of the match.

Why did Medhavi Bidhuri go viral?

Bidhuri became an internet sensation during the opening match of the Women’s DPL 2026 because of her unique ‘6-7’ celebration.

In the 16th over, she dismissed South Delhi Superstarz batter Nishika Singh. Arushi Goel completed a diving catch at mid-wicket, giving Bidhuri her second wicket of the match.

Instead of celebrating in the usual manner, the Delhi spinner performed the now-popular ‘6-7’ hand gesture. The celebration involved moving both hands up and down in a seesaw-like motion.

Bidhuri finished the match with figures of 2/24 from her four overs. Despite her efforts, Central Delhi Queens eventually lost the match by 29 runs.

Why did Medhavi Bidhuri wear No. 67?

The story behind the celebration is even more interesting. Bidhuri normally wanted to wear jersey number 12, but the number was already occupied. Her younger sister suggested that she choose No. 67 because the ‘6-7’ trend was popular among Gen Z.

Speaking about the celebration, Bidhuri said, “This is ‘67’. This is trending right now, and my little sister is Gen Z, so she told me to wear jersey number 67 and do this celebration.”
