Nitish Kumar Reddy was bought at the IPL 2023 auction for Rs 20 lakhs by SRH.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy made people notice his name in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with his unbeaten 14 against defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 5.
The 20-year-old young sensation Nitish showcased his talent in his next match against Punjab Kings, as he played a blistering innings of 64 runs off 37 balls including four boundaries and five sixes and a stunning strike rate of 172.97. His knock guided Hyderabad to a respectable total.
However, not many cricket enthusiasts would know that the young lad has been associated with the Hyderabad franchise since IPL 2023. He made his debut against Royal Challengers Bengaluru last year. However, the right-arm speedster conceded 19 runs in two overs.
Who is SRH’s Nitish Kumar Reddy?
The 20-year-old all-rounder was born on May 26, 2003, in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Nitish has so far played 17 First-Class (FC) matches and scored 566 runs, with highest score of 159 runs.
In List A cricket, Nitish has featured in 22 games and scored 403 runs. His highest score is 60. In T20s, the right-handed batter has smashed 106 runs in eight matches so far.
Reddy was acquired by SRH at the IPL 2023 auction at his base price of Rs 20 lakhs. However, he was retained for the 2024 edition, and he returned their faith with a crucial fifty against Punjab in Mullanpur on April 9.
The talented all-rounder utilized a major part of his first IPL salary to gift a car to his family. He shared this news on his Instagram handle, where he could be seen receiving the key for the car in the background along with his parents.
The Andhra cricketer Reddy idolizes veteran all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Ben Stokes. He had earlier opened the bowling and batting in age-group cricket but started batting in lower order when he transitioned to senior-level cricket, according to ESPNCricinfo.
After Reddy’s maiden IPL fifty against PBKS, Indian middle-order batter and his Andhra teammate Hanuma Vihari revealed that Reddy comes from a humble background and Reddy’s father left his job to help his son pursue his cricketing career.
“NKR- comes from a humble background. His father left his job for his career, he guided him and nurtured him. His hard work has paid dividends and I’ve seen him whn he was 17 years old. Proud of him of how he’s grown as a player.Asset for SRH n India in the future,” Vihari wrote on X.
