Who is Prema Rawat? Uncapped spinner who replaced Shreyanka Patil in India squad for Women’s T20 World Cup 2026

Prema Rawat was with India A in England and was called to join main team for tournament
Indian Women are contesting in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England. They have made a great start to their campaign, winning their first two games. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side are set to play their third game on June 21 against South Africa.
Despite two impressive wins, one piece of news has dampened the celebrations in the India camp. The leading spin-bowling all-rounder Shreyanka Patil has sustained a ligament tear and has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament.
Shreyanka had played the match against Pakistan where she had bowled three overs giving merely 17 runs off it. She is also regarded as a terrific fielder, and had contributed with one catch in that clash.
However, in the match against Netherlands, she got injured right after her first ball of the inning, and had to be stretchered out of the ground. It has been confirmed that she has sustained a ligament tear and will not feature in the further matches.
Prema Rawat, an uncapped player is picked for the Indian squad replacing Shreyanka.
Who is Prema Rawat?
In her childhood, Prema was at the crossroads of choosing either of Hockey or Cricket. She chose the latter and gave it her all. She is a multi-faceted player, with being an agile fielder, dynamic pinch-hitter and a leg-spinner.
The 24-year-old was picked by Royal Challengers Bengaluru for 1.2 cr in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction 2025. Hailing from Uttarakhand, she has made her name through the domestic leagues and has also proven her mettle in the WPL, after which she was selected in the India A squad for the ACC Women’s Asia Cup Rising Stars 2026.
Prema Rawat played in all the five matches of the tournament, claiming 8 wickets at a staggering economy of 9.6. This included a match-winning 3-wicket haul in the Final of the tournament where India were defending 134, and Prema gave only 12 runs in her 4 overs.
Her well-rounded cricketing skills strengthen her contention for the squad and make her a like-to-like replacement of Shreyanka Patil. She was a part of the India A setup in England and will join the team for the remainder of the tournament.
The Women in Blue are set to face South Africa on Sunday in their third clash of the tournament. This match will be very crucial in the context of their campaign, as India are grouped in Group A alongside Australia and South Africa. If India win on Sunday, they will move closer to securing their semi-final berth.
