Ramandeep Singh was part of KKR’s IPL 2024 title-winning campaign.
From one seam-bowling all-rounder to another seam-bowling all-rounder. Ramandeep Singh received his debut T20I cap from Hardik Pandya ahead of the third T20I against South Africa on Wednesday in Centurion.
After being on the bench in the first two T20Is in Durban and Gqeberha, Ramandeep got to make his T20I debut at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.
Hailing from Chandigarh, the 27-year-old had received his maiden call-up to India’s T20I squad for the tour of South Africa as Nitish Reddy, who had made his T20I debut against Bangladesh last month, is on the tour of Australia with the test squad.
This call-up and debut is also a reward for Ramandeep for his impressive performances in domestic cricket and in particular the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season for the champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Who is Ramandeep Singh?
Ramandeep Singh is a middle-order batsman who also bowls medium pace. He plays for Punjab in domestic cricket and for KKR in the IPL and was recently part of the India A team that participated in the ACC Men’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup.
Ramandeep made important contributions to KKR in IPL 2024: he smashed 125 runs off only 62 balls, managing a strike rate of 201, which was the fourth-best among all batsmen who faced at least 50 balls in the season. He cracked five fours and 12 sixes in the KKR jersey.
His terrific power-hitting lower down the order prompted KKR to retain him ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction for INR 4 crores.
He bowled only once last season. However, he had taken six wickets in the three times he bowled during IPL 2022, when he was with Mumbai Indians.
Including domestic cricket, Ramandeep has played 57 T20s so far, in which he thumped 544 runs at a strike rate of 170, smoking 34 fours and 38 sixes. He has also taken 16 wickets in his T20 career.
Apart from this, Ramandeep has featured in 23 List A matches and four first-class games.
