The pacer has replaced the injured Devon Conway in the CSK squad.

For the remainder of IPL 2024, Devon Conway, the opener for the New Zealand team will not be available for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) due to injury. The Indian Premier League verified this on Thursday, April 18, 2024.

Conway, a keeper-batter who signed with the Chennai Super Kings in the 2022 Indian Premier League, broke his left thumb during the second T20 International match in Auckland in February against Australia.

Conway had surgery and CSK had hoped that he would return in May for the second half of the IPL. However, now it has been confirmed that the left-hander will miss the entire IPL 2024 season.

Conway had played a key role in CSK’s IPL 2023 victory, scoring 672 runs in 15 innings at an average of 51.69 and a strike rate of slightly under 140. Overall, Conway has scored 924 runs in 23 IPL matches for Chennai Super Kings with nine fifties to his name. His highest score has been 92* and he has a strike rate of 141.28.

As Conway’s replacement, Chennai Super Kings officially confirmed that they have called-up England’s Richard Gleeson.

Here is all you need to know about Richard Gleeson

Richard Gleeson was the third oldest T20I debutant for England when he played his first game against India in 2022. He removed Rohit Sharma for his maiden T20I wicket in his first over and then accounted for Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant in his first outing for his country.

Gleeson, a late arrival into the international circuit, did not play professional cricket until he was 27. Gleeson’s first-class career began at the age of 27. He made his first-class debut for Northamptonshire in 2015 and continued to play for them until 2018.

He had considered retiring from the game owing to back concerns, but changed his mind. He was impressive in the T20 Blast 2022, taking 23 wickets at an average of 16.34 with best figures of 5/33.

Gleeson has played in different domestic leagues around the world, including the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and Big Bash League (BBL), where he represented the Rangpur Riders and Melbourne Renegades respectively. He has also played for the Durban Super Giants in SA20 and the Gulf Giants in the ILT20.
