Bihar captain Sakibul Gani set the field on fire in the opening game of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, scripting the record for the fastest ton by an Indian batter in List A. Bihar, part of the Vijay Hazare Plate tournament, clashed with Arunachal Pradesh at JSCA Oval Ground in Ranchi on December 24.
Batting at number five, Gani struck an unbeaten 128-run knock off just 40 deliveries, reaching the three-figure mark off just 32 deliveries. His innings, comprising 10 boundaries and 12 sixes, helped Bihar to post the highest-ever team total (574/6) in List A Cricket.
Overall, the 26-year-old hammered the third-fastest List A ton, only behind Australia’s Jake Fraser McGurk (29) and South Africa’s AB de Villiers (31). The Bihar batter is a die-hard fan of former India opener Virender Sehwag. On multiple occasions, he has acknowledged that he is a big fan of the former India explosive batter. In a prior interview with Times of India, he revealed that he has learnt a lot of batting tactics by watching Sehwag’s videos.
4. Sakibul Gani slammed a triple century on first-class debut

The right-handed batsman made his Ranji Trophy debut in 2022. Playing against Mizoram, the Bihar batsman hammered a marvellous triple century in the encounter.
Scoring 341 runs, he scripted the record for becoming the first player to score a triple ton on first-class debut. He broke Ajay Rohera’s record (267) in the Ranji Trophy 2018-19 edition.
3. Sakibul Gani owns the record for most runs after three first-class matches
After his spectacular triple century on his first-class debut, Gani played an impressive innings in his second match as well. Smacking 98 and 101 runs across two innings against Sikkim in Ranji Trophy 2021-22, he ended up with 540 runs in his first three innings in first-class cricket.
In the process, he registered the record for hitting the most runs after the first three innings in First-Class cricket, surpassing Auckland batter Bill Carson’s tally (494 runs).

In Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024, Sakibul Gani opened the batting for Bihar in a clash against Punjab. Facing Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh in the first over, he gave a glimpse of his batting might to the opposition.
The right-handed batter slammed a boundary on the very first delivery he faced, and followed it up with two more in the same over.

Sakibul’s elder brother, Faisal, was a bowling all-rounder who represented Bihar at the U19 level. Faisal had a big role in Sakibul’s cricket journey, mentoring and coaching him in his formative years.
