Tanush Kotian was Mumbai’s hero in during Ranji Trophy 2023-24 knockout round.

Mumbai off-spinner Tanush Kotian will be playing a key role for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Kotian has replaced Adam Zampa in the RR squad after the Australian leg-spinner pulled out of the ongoing tournament citing personal reasons. Kotian will be rubbing shoulders with senior Indian spinners Ravi Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal in the RR camp.

Tanush Kotian has been roped in by RR at his base price of Rs 20 lakh. Royals had earlier retained Zampa for Rs 1.5 crore. Royals bank on their spinners and Kotian’s recent performances in Indian domestic tournaments impressed the Royals think tank. Kotian played a decent hand in Mumbai’s 42nd Ranji-title winning camp.

Who is Tanush Kotian?

The 25-year-old Mumbai off-spinner will have his first ever IPL experience. Despite being a consistent performer in the Indian domestic cricket, Kotian failed to get an IPL contract until now. His association with RR will be the first one for him in the league. Kotian was born and brought up in Mumbai and city’s iconic style of play is visible in his game.

Off-spinner Kotian has so far played 26 First Class cricket matches and picked up 75 wickets. In limited overs cricket, Tanush Kotian played 23 T20 matches and picked up 24 wickets while in List A cricket he has taken 20 wickets in 19 games. He is also a useful contributor with the bat down the order. He scored more than 500 runs in the recently concluded Ranji Trophy 2023-24.

Tanush Kotian picked up 29 wickets in 10 matches in Ranji Trophy 2023-24. He took seven wickets in the final played against Vidarbha at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Kotian also smacked a century against Baroda in the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 quarter-final clash batting at No. 10. RR will play their opening game of the IPL 2024 against Lucknow Super Giants in Jaipur on Sunday, 24th March.
