It was also a proud moment for India head coach Gautam Gambhir, who guided the Men-in-Blue to their second ICC title in two years. Firstly, in March 2025, India defeated New Zealand in the final of the Champions Trophy, having won their second trophy in the tournament’s history.
After the Champions Trophy, India won the T20 World Cup 2026 title under Gambhir’s coaching tenure. Following India’s victory, Gambhir’s impressive leadership style received praise from fans and experts. In the post-match press conference, Gambhir reacted humbly to India’s win, giving credit to the players.

Gambhir has achieved an incredible triumph following India‘s victory in the T20 World Cup 2026. He has become the first cricketer to win this tournament both as a player and a coach.
Notably, Gambhir was part of the MS Dhoni-led Indian team that won the inaugural T20 World Cup, defeating Pakistan in the final. He also rocked the field with his batting show in the clash by scoring 75 runs. After 18 years, Gambhir has repeated the feat; however, this time as a coach.
Meanwhile, Indian batting legend Rahul Dravid won the T20 World Cup as a coach in 2024, but he couldn’t win it as a player.
Daren Sammy, who coached West Indies in the T20 World Cup 2026, won the title as the WI captain in 2012 and 2014. However, he failed to bag the feat as a coach after West Indies were eliminated ahead of the semi-finals.
