India lost the 1st T20I against Ireland.

India are on tour of the UK, which includes a two-match T20I series with Ireland, followed by their white-ball series against England.

Shreyas Iyer and Co. had chosen to field first against Ireland in the first encounter on June 26, in Belfast. They fielded most of their experienced and T20 World Cup-winning players. Meanwhile, several key Irish players were sidelined due to injuries.

India conceded 182 runs in the first innings, with Harshit Rana taking three wickets. Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel claimed two scalps each. However, Prasidh Krishna and Washington conceded many runs and failed to take any wickets.

While chasing, the No. 1 ranked T20I batsman, Abhishek Sharma, scored the most runs for the team (49), while Shivam Dube chipped in with 25. However, the other batsmen could not do much; ultimately, India fell short by 34 runs.

One thing that caught the attention of many viewers was a factual discrepancy in Abhishek Sharma’s runs. In some places, it was shown that he scored a half-century, whereas in others, it was recorded as one run short.

Abhishek Sharma was India’s star batter in the first T20I and scored the most runs for the team. However, he could not take the team through and finish the chase.

Sharma had raised his bat for the half-century, receiving applause from the crowd and the team dugout. He scored 50 off 20 deliveries, reaching the milestone with a single. Eventually, he got out on the very next ball off Benjamin Calitz’s delivery.

Shortly after he completed his half-century, the Indian Cricket Team also acknowledged this via their official Instagram handle. However, his runs were later changed in the scorecard to 49 off 20, due to a leg-bye correction from the second over.

It was Jai Moondra’s over when Abhishek took a single off the last ball of the over. The run was counted off the bat; however, it was later recorded as a leg-bye, hence the change in his total runs.

On June 26, India put up a very poor performance and lost their first T20I match against Ireland. They have another fixture slated for June 28, and if India win this clash, they will be able to draw the series 1-1.
