Alyssa Healy had entered the auction with a base price of INR 50 lakhs.

The Women’s Premier League (WPL 2026) auction concluded in Delhi on November 27, 2025. Deepti Sharma turned out to be the most expensive player sold in the WPL 2026 auction, bought by UP Warriorz for INR 3.20 crores. Amelia Kerr was bought by the Mumbai Indians for INR 3 crores, becoming the second most expensive player at the event.

However, the biggest news from the WPL 2026 auction was that ace Australian keeper-batter Alyssa Healy going unsold. Healy was the first name out in the auction and found no buyers. The same story repeated in the accelerated round as well.

The first player to go under the hammer on Thursday was the right-handed wicketkeeper-batter who was linked to UP Warriorz during the previous three WPL seasons and even led them, but she did not draw a bid.

Since making her debut for Australia against New Zealand in Hobart in February 2010, Healy—one of the best hitters of all time—has participated in 162 Twenty20 Internationals. Healy has scored 3054 runs in 143 innings throughout 162 T20I games for the Australian squad thus far.

“Alyssa Healy going unsold was surprising”- Abhishek Nayar, head coach of UP Warriorz

Teams might have been holding off at that moment, giving other players priority and intending to revisit Healy later in the expedited round. However, no team had her on their wish list for the re-run, so her name did not appear again.

Following the auction, head coach Abhishek Nayar of UP Warriorz (UPW) and assistant coach Anya Shrubsole of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) stated their reasons for not placing a bid for Healy. Healy was on the Delhi Capitals’ (DC) roster, but squad “flexibility” took precedence, according to head coach Jonathan Batty.

Alyssa Healy going unsold was surprising for different reasons. When you’re allowed only four overseas players [in the XI], your options are limited, and many teams prefer allrounders in their set-up. It’s a tough situation for someone of her stature,” Nayar was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

We have a very strong top order, and Georgia Voll gives us some offspin as well. With Richa Ghosh [as a wicketkeeper-batter] in the top five, going for Healy didn’t make sense for us,” Shrubsole explained.

After being let go by UPW, who had signed her for INR 70 lakh for the first two seasons, Healy entered the auction at a base price of INR 50 lakh. She missed the previous season due to a foot ailment. In 17 WPL games, she has scored 428 runs at a strike rate of 130.48 and an average of 26.75.

Wicketkeepers were undoubtedly in high demand, but opening batsmen and possible captains were not. In addition to keeping wicketkeeper Beth Mooney, the Gujarat Giants (GG) paid INR 50 lakh to acquire Yastika Bhatia, who is currently injured.

For a total of INR 60 lakh, DC acquired Lizelle Lee and Taniya Bhatia from South Africa. For INR 10 lakh, UPW chose an inexperienced Shipra Giri as their only custodian. Richa was retained by RCB, and G Kamalini was retained by the Mumbai Indians (MI).
