The BCCI has introduced another strict rule in IPL 2026 to follow the latest anti-corruption protocols.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 is now heading towards its end, and Rajasthan Royals (RR) will be facing the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Qualifier 2 on May 29, 2026, at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has become one of the strongest contenders for the emerging player after his explosive batting performances.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the defending champions, have made their second consecutive final after defeating the Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1. The final will be played on May 31, 2026, at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

While the on-field action has entertained fans, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken another major step to tighten security. BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) has officially banned the use of smart sunglasses and smart goggles inside the Players and Match official Area (PMOA) during IPL season.

The latest move comes after the BCCI noticed that several companies have started marketing advanced smart eyewear products to IPL players and support staff. As per the advisory, these smart sunglasses can support live streaming, text messaging, audio calls, video calls, and even recording through mobile data or Wi-Fi networks.

According to the board, these devices are not normal sunglasses as they come with communication and recording features that could create security concerns during the matches. BCCI has now classified smart sunglasses as both “communication devices” and “audio/video recording devices” under PMOA rules.

In its official advisory, the BCCI stated:

“Kindly note that these devices are equipped with advanced communication features, including live streaming, sending and receiving text messages, as well as audio and video calling capabilities through mobile data or Wi-Fi networks.”

The board further added:

“It is hereby notified that the possession and/or use of “Smart Goggles” is strictly prohibited within the Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA).”

As per the new protocols, all players, coaches, support staff and officials need to deposit smart sunglasses along with mobile phones and smartwatches before entering restricted match areas. These devices will have to be handed over to the Security Liaison Officer (LSO) on match days.

Earlier this season, Rajasthan Royals team manager Romi Bhinder was fined heavily after he was caught using a mobile phone inside the dugout during a match. The incident reportedly pushed the BCCI to become even stricter regarding electronic devices inside restricted areas.
