The second ZIM vs IND T20I is underway at Harare Sports Club in Harare.
The Indian Cricket Team are currently playing against Zimbabwe in the T20I series at the Harare Sports Club, Harare. With the India dominating the first game of the series and clinching a seven-wicket victory, the importance of the second game has increased significantly. Zimbabwe would like to upset India and level the series, forcing it into a decider, while the India would like to win the match and seal the series.
It would be the first series win under captain Shreyas Iyer, who was given the captaincy of the T20I team in June before the tours of Ireland and England. Sadly, the team failed to win the series against Ireland and then England, but this is the perfect opportunity for Iyer to register his first series win as captain.
What is reason behind the black armbands worn by players in the second ZIM vs IND T20I?
However, during the match, it was seen that both the Indian and Zimbabwean players were wearing black armbands. Normally, in cricket, players wear black armbands as a mark of respect, to mourn the passing of a person, or occasionally to protest an issue.
The BCCI posted on its social media that Team India and Zimbabwe players are wearing black armbands to pay their respects to Zimbabwe Cricket vice-chairman Sylvester Matshaka, who passed away last night.
Zimbabwe Cricket chairman Mr Tavengwa Mukuhlani stated that Zimbabwe Cricket has lost an eminent figure who gave so much to the game in the country. He said Sylvester Matshaka served the board with integrity and selfless devotion throughout his tenure.
Mr Matshaka was 76 years old when he passed away on Friday. He joined the Zimbabwe Cricket Board in 2006 and served as Vice Chairman from 2015 until his passing, dedicating nearly two decades to the governance of the board during one of its most significant eras.
