Karachi Kings (KAR) and Islamabad United (ISL) are locking horns in the 25th match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 on Thursday, April 16. The encounter is taking place at the National Stadium in Karachi.
Both the teams are coming into the contest on the back of losses. While Karachi lost their last two games in PSL 2026, Islamabad lost their previous game against Hyderabad Kingsmen.
Islamabad captain Shadab Khan won the toss and opted to field first in the match. What caught the attention of many was David Warner, who is the captain of Karachi Kings, didn’t walk out for toss and instead it was Moeen Ali, who is leading the team.
Why is David Warner absent from KAR vs ISL game?

Notably, Warner is suffering from a back issue. He also missed the previous game due to back pain. At the toss, Ali informed that Warner will need more time to recover from his injury.
“We would have batted first just because it is used, it’s slow and there’s obviously a bit of spin. Night games can be a bit different but just obviously have to get a good score on the board. (On David Warner) He is still going to take a little bit of time. Maybe after this game he will be back. Obviously he’s a big player,” he said.
Warner has featured in four games so far, scoring one half-century. He got out for 35, 8, and 0 in the other three games. Under his captaincy, Karachi Kings won three games in a row at the start. Out of five games, they have won three matches and lost two.
Recently, Warner was caught in a big controversy. He went on a short break to Australia to spend time with his family. A few other players were also given a break by the franchise.
In Sydney, Warner was arrested by the police for a drunk-driving incident. As a result, a case was registered against him. Warner is also set to appear in an Australian court next month in the case.
