The match 5 of the Indian Premier League 2026 between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Delhi Capitals (DC) got underway on April 1. The venue of the clash is Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel won the toss and opted to bowl first in the encounter. Notably, LSG did not pick spinner Digvesh Rathi into the playing XI, which shocked many fans as he gave a brilliant performance last season.
In IPL 2025, Rathi ended as the highest wicket-taker for his team with 14 wickets in 13 games at an average of 30.64 and an economy of 8.25. The leg spinner led the team’s spin attack with his consistent performance and economical bowling. After his impressive show, LSG retained him for IPL 2026 at his price of INR 30 lakh.
Why did Digvesh Rathi miss the match against DC?

Notably, Rathi was one of LSG’s impact players in the clash against DC. He was going to bowl in the second innings. However, since Lucknow suffered a massive batting collapse in the first innings, all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed was utilised as an impact player while batting.
Speaking about the LSG vs DC clash, the Rishabh Pant & Co. completely struggled with their batting despite the home advantage. Captain Pant came out to bat as an opener with Mitchell Marsh. However, he lost his wicket through a run-out in the third over for just seven runs.
Key batters like Aiden Markram (11), Ayush Badoni (0), and Nicholas Pooran (8) failed to go big. Marsh (35) and Abdul Samad (36) were the highest run-scorers for the side. LSG failed to bat for 20 overs and were all-out for just 141 runs in 18.4 overs.
For DC, pacers Lungi Ngidi and T Natarajan did a superb job in bowling, clinching three wickets each. Kuldeep Yadav picked up two wickets while Axar hunted one scalp.
