Hardik Pandya was expected to make a comeback through IND vs WI series.
The Indian Cricket Team is preparing for a busy home season with the West Indies set to tour India. The series will include both ODIs and T20Is, with several important players expected to feature.
The ODI series will begin on September 27 in Thiruvananthapuram. India will then play the second ODI in Guwahati on September 30 and the final game in New Chandigarh on October 3.
The series is also important for India as they continue to build their core ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup. The selectors have therefore been keeping a close eye on the fitness of several senior players.
One name missing from both squads is Hardik Pandya. The all-rounder was expected to make a comeback through the ODI series after a prolonged injury. However, his name not being there raised many eyebrows.

Hardik Pandya has not played as competitive cricket since IPL 2026 due to injuries. The reason behind Pandya not being there in the squad is unknown.
However, reports in Dainik Jagran claimed that that he is still not completely fit. The all-rounder is not capable of bowling more than six overs in a match, which could be the reason why he was not picked in Indian teams.
However, Hardik has been picked in India A’s squad for the upcoming one-day series against Australia A, which starts on October.
Hardik’s bowling fitness has always been important because India use him as a pace-bowling all-rounder. His ability to contribute with both bat and ball gives the team more balance.
The selectors therefore need to make sure that he is ready to handle the workload before bringing him back into the ODI side. The selectors were also looking at whether he would be ready to bowl 10 overs and field for 50 overs in an ODI.
His absence also means Nitish Kumar Reddy has been added to the ODI squad. Reddy was initially part of India’s Asian Games squad but has now been added to the team for the West Indies ODIs.
