The India vs Afghanistan T20I series will begin on September 13.

The Indian Cricket Team is set to face Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series, starting from 13 September. All three matches will be played at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. However, the India will not occupy the host dressing room and will have to settle for the visitors’ dressing room. This is the first time the Men in Blue will occupy the visitors’ dressing room in a match being hosted on Indian soil.

The dressing room has always been an important part of the team’s match preparation, a place to discuss strategies, create a team environment, and more. With the India set to use the away dressing room, the fans and supporters of the team are wondering why this is happening since the match is taking place on Indian soil. On that note, let’s have a look at the reason behind this circumstance.

This is the second bilateral series between India and Afghanistan this year. Earlier, the Afghanistan toured India for a one-off Test match and three ODIs. The Indian team whitewashed the Afghans in both series, showing their dominance. However, this time around, it is Afghanistan who will be hosting India for a three-match T20I series.

Due to the cricket infrastructure not being fully developed and security reasons, the Afghanistan hosts their matches outside the country, mainly in India. The team has already hosted other countries in cities like Lucknow, Dehradun, Greater Noida, and Delhi. However, they have never hosted the India before, and this will be the first time they will host India on Indian soil.

The Indian players will be seen coming out of the visitors’ dressing room, which is named after former Indian cricketer Prakash Bhandari, while the Afghans will be taking up the host dressing room, named after former Indian cricketer Raman Lamba.

Not only the dressing room, but all the other protocols will also be reversed, treating Shreyas Iyer and Co. as the visiting team. The matches are scheduled for 13, 15, and 17 September, and the series will be historic in itself.

Why will the Indian team use the visitors’ dressing room against Afghanistan?

The Indian team will use the visitors’ dressing room because Afghanistan are officially the hosts of the three-match T20I series, even though all three matches are being played in Delhi.

When is the AFG vs IND T20I series scheduled to start?

The Afghanistan vs India three-match T20I series is scheduled to start on 13 September 2026.
