Indian players donned a pink-themed attire on day 3 of the Sydney test.
Australia completed their rout of India by 3-1 in the BGT 2024-25 with a six-wicket win in the last test of the series in Sydney.
With this result, Australia won their first test series against India since 2014/15, reclaimed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), and booked a place in a second consecutive ICC WTC final. They will face South Africa at Lord’s in June to defend their crown of World Test Champions, having won it in 2023 by defeating India in the final at The Oval.
India were handed the killing blow on the second day of the Sydney test when they lost the services of captain and spearhead fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah to back spasms.
While the other bowlers helped India bowl Australia out for 181 and take a slender four-run lead, Bumrah was duly missed in India’s defence of the target of 162.
Sam Konstas, Usman Khawaja, Travis Head and Beau Webster made important contributions as Australia went over the line in the middle of day 3 at the SCG.
The Sydney test has traditionally been the Pink Test of the Australian summer. The Australian players and the crowd wear pink hats and don pink attires for this test. During the match, the stands, posters at and around the venue, and even the stumps are of pink color..
On Sunday, on day 3 of the match, the Indian players also wore pink-themed jersey. Their regular blue was replaced with pink for this day.
Why India wore pink themed jersey on day 3 of SCG test?
The third day of the Sydney test is called the Pink Day in order to raise money for the McGrath Foundation. Indian players supported this cause by donning pink-themed jersey.
The Indian team presented a signed cap to former Australia pacer Glenn McGrath ahead of the start of day 3. The purpose of this Pink test is to raise awareness about breast cancer and raise funds for the McGrath Foundation, which Glenn McGrath founded after his wife Jane was diagnosed with breast cancer and passed away in 2008.
This McGrath Foundation collaborates with Cricket Australia to raise funds for breast cancer patients and survivors.
