Ishan Kishan is recovering from a low-grade right adductor strain.

India are taking on New Zealand in the 3rd T20I of the five-match series. The match is underway at the Sky Stadium in Wellington on Tuesday, October 27. The visitors have won the first two matches and will look to continue their winning run.

Meanwhile, New Zealand will aim to bounce back and keep their hopes of winning the series alive. Due to a low-grade right adductor strain, Ishan Kishan remained sidelined for the third T20I, following his absence from the second match as well.

In the 3rd match, India won the toss and decided to bowl first. India have named an unchanged XI for the clash. Hence, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has another chance to prove his class. As you might know, he replaced Kishan in the second T20I.

Ahead of the third T20I, India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel provided an important update regarding Ishan Kishan‘s injury.

“Ishan is doing well. He will be training today. For tomorrow, I think he is not available for selection, just as a precaution,” Morkel said ahead of the third T20I.

Kishan sustained the injury during the opening match in Christchurch on October 22. After that, he missed the second T20I on October 24 and is also unavailable for the third match.

Ahead of the second T20I, India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak gave an update on Kishan’s fitness, confirming the batter is dealing with a groin issue.

In its official medical update on October 26, the BCCI also said Kishan is recovering well, but has not yet regained match fitness. The board has not announced his return date.

Uncapped wicketkeeper-batter Kumar Kushagra will continue with the Indian squad as cover for Kishan. His presence in the squad does not guarantee his selection in the playing XI.

India currently lead the five-match series 2-0 after winning the first two encounters by four wickets. A win in Wellington will seal the series for the visitors.

Why is Ishan Kishan not playing the third T20I against New Zealand?

Ishan has been ruled out due to a low-grade right adductor strain suffered during the first T20I against New Zealand.
