The toss of JPN vs IND one-off game has been delayed.
The Indian Cricket Team is currently in Japan for a one-off T20I against the hosts at the Sano International Cricket Ground. The match is also part of India’s preparations for the Asian Games 2026, where the team will look to defend their gold medal.
The match is also a historic one as it is the first meeting between India and Japan in men’s international cricket. Japan will get a chance to play against a full-member nation, while India will look to get used to the local conditions before the Asian Games 2026.
However, the match did not start at the scheduled time despite the skies clearing up in Sano. The toss was delayed after rain earlier in the day left parts of the outfield wet.

The toss has been delayed because of a wet outfield. Rain earlier in the day left several damp patches on the ground. Although there has been no rain since morning and the weather has improved, the outfield is still not completely dry.
The match officials need to ensure that the ground is safe for the players before allowing play to begin. Ground staff have been working on the wet areas, while officials continue to inspect the conditions. The inspection at 11:45 AM IST gave the green signal, and the match got underway.
India then won the toss, with captain Shreyas Iyer choosing to bat first. Young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi still not returned to India’s playing XI, while Jasprit Bumrah has also been rested.
Speaking at the toss, Iyer said:
“We want to bat first. It’s a big occasion, and we know the friendship you mentioned, 75 years of friendship. So it’s going to be an exciting one, and we wanted to explore the conditions as well.”
The five-over game will now give both teams a short but important opportunity to gain match practice ahead of the Asian Games 2026.
