Jason Holder & Shimron Hetmyer are two of the key players for West Indies.

The Indian Cricket Team is set for another busy white-ball assignment as West Indies arrive for their tour of India. The series will feature three ODIs and five T20Is.

The ODI series between India and West Indies will begin on September 27 in Thiruvananthapuram, with the second match scheduled for September 30 and the third ODI on October 3. The five-match T20I series will then begin on October 6 and run until October 18.

India will be looking to build on their recent performances in white-ball cricket. The team has already had a busy international schedule this year and will have another important series against New Zealand later in October.

West Indies, meanwhile, have announced their squads for the India tour. Shai Hope will lead both the ODI and T20I sides, while the selectors have made a few changes across the two formats.

One of the biggest talking points is the absence of two experienced names from the ODI squad. Jason Holder and Shimron Hetmyer will not play the three-match ODI series against India.

Why will Shimron Hetmyer miss ODIs against India?

Shimron Hetmyer has been included in West Indies’ T20I squad but will miss the ODI leg of the India tour.

The left-handed batter has been given an extended recovery period after the Caribbean Premier League. Shimron Hetmyer was one of the leading performers in CPL 2026 and finished as the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament.

He recently played the final two ODIs of West Indies’ home series against New Zealand in July. Shimron Hetmyer also made an unbeaten 69 in the fifth ODI, helping West Indies win the match.

The West Indies selectors have therefore decided to give him some additional time to recover after his CPL campaign. Shimron Hetmyer will join the squad for the five-match T20I series, which starts on October 6.

Jason Holder is another experienced West Indies player who will not be part of the ODI series against India.

However, unlike Hetmyer, Holder has been rested from the entire India tour. He has not been included in either the ODI or T20I squad.

Holder last played an ODI for West Indies in July 2023. He was part of the West Indies setup for the T20I series against Sri Lanka in June this year and also captained St Kitts & Nevis Patriots during the CPL 2026.

When will the India vs West Indies ODI series start?

The three-match ODI series will start on September 27 in Thiruvananthapuram. The second ODI will be played on September 30, followed by the third on October 3.

Who is Kamil Pooran?

Kamil Pooran is a West Indies batter who earned his maiden T20I call-up after a strong CPL 2026 campaign.
