Jasprit Bumrah recently played in IPL 2026 for Mumbai Indians.
The one-off test between India and Afghanistan got underway on June 6 at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh. Both teams are scheduled to play one test and three ODIs.
This is the only second test ever played between India and Afghanistan. Both sides locked horns in a Test match back in 2018, which India won convincingly.
Indian captain Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bat first in the match. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah is not part of India’s playing XI in the encounter. He recently played for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026.
Why did Jasprit Bumrah miss IND vs AFG 1st test?

Notably, Bumrah is not part of the India’s squad for the Afghanistan series. He has been rested from both test and ODI series to manage his workload. Over the last two months, the right-arm pacer was busy in Indian Premier League 2026. In 13 games, he picked four wickets at an economy of 8.37 for MI.
Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Gurnoon Brar are three pacers in India’s squad for the test match. Siraj and Krishna are part of the playing XI against Afghanistan. Spinner Manav Suthar has made his test debut in the clash.
Speaking at the toss, Gill said, “We’re going to bat first. Very hot and humid here, so I think as the time goes by, the wicket is going to get slower and it’s going to get low. Looks like a good surface. I think a little bit drier, obviously because of the heat. It’s been very hot for the past few weeks here and I think it’s going to stay the same.”
“So just trying to get our combinations right and a lot of things as a batting group that we need to prove, especially here. So those are things that we are looking to. We’ve got Manav Suthar making his debut for the first time,” he said.
